-About Me-

Picture

Hi! My name is Kenna Seegmiller!
I am currently 17 years old and doing my best to take on the rapidly changing world around me. I love theatre, ASL, sewing, drawing/painting and gaming. Outside of school you will likely find me on my laptop writing, working, or playing games.

My overall goal as I become a adult is to graduate with a major in American Sign Language/interpreting and a minor in education. I was originally inspired by my ASL teacher and was inspired to help others when I began doing service for those who needed help in clubs. The feeling I get when helping others is just euphoric to me. Hopefully in ten years I will find myself living here in Utah and interpreting or teaching sign language to others while living with a roommate/partner and a c
at.

High school has not been an easy road. When I came to Hillcrest in 2019, my freshman year got cut short because of COVID-19. When I began my sophomore year, I began taking every opportunity that was possible for me. I was the secretary of ASL club, ensemble in Hillcrest's production of Hunchback of Notre Dame (as well as 42nd Street in the previous year), and a coach of a contemporary piece that achieved 1st place in both region and state for theatre. In my current year, I was apart of Hillcrest's Shakespeare Team that took 1st place in every category possible and their production of Holiday Inn. Currently, I am the secretary of Hillcrest NHS and received a certificate in medical terminology. My favorite classes right now are ASL 3H, Physics H, and IB Psychology. I love the teachers and the students in those classes and they just take my stress and help me put it aside for a while.

I joined the IB Career Programme because I want to try and extend my learning and prepare myself even more for university. I believe that this program is going to benefit me even though I do have my doubts and fears about completing this program. I am most excited for getting to learn how to do service relating to American Sign Language.  My overall goal for my service is to change the lives of the people around me, but first to learn how to overall find someone who needs my help and how to actually begin a project. I cannot wait to see where this program takes me and I really hope it will help me achieve my dreams of becoming an interpreter.
